How to Create Your Windows Recovery Drive

A recovery USB drive is important for every user, because it lets you boot up your PC to reinstall  Windows and the rest of the software that came with your PC, or do system recovery by giving you access to the Advanced Options Menu.  Below are the steps to create your Windows recovery drive  FYI you will need a USB flash drive with at least 32 GB of space.  It is also important to know the drive’s contents will be erased.

  1. Insert your USB flash drive into your computer.
  2. Press the Windows key and type “Create a recovery drive” in the search bar. Select the option that appears.
  3. In the “Recovery Drive” window, make sure the “Back up system files to the recovery drive” option is checked. This will include the necessary system files for troubleshooting.
  4. Click Next and choose your USB flash drive from the list. Be aware that all data on the drive will be deleted, so make sure you’ve backed up any important information.
  5. Click Next and then click Create. The tool will begin to download and copy the necessary files to the USB drive.
  6. Once the process is complete, click Finish.
