Before I tell those reasons let me tell you what a driver. A driver is a set of instruction in files that tell your computer’s operating system the configuration of any hard devices such as graphic card, and printers, etc.
Reasons To Upgrade
Updating you drivers is very important for the following reasons:
- Fix bugs in software where your computer’s hardware is not working correctly, and could increase performance.
- Patch security holes in driver’s code that could allow hackers to do bad things with your PC that you do not want.
- New features that you might find useful.
Where To Get The Drivers
You need to know where you get your computer drivers Now that you know why it is important your drivers. You can get your drivers from the following sources:
- Windows Updates
- The computer’s manufacture’s website.
- The support program that came with your computer. This in my opinion is the easiest way to update your computer drivers to most updated version.
- Off of the CD’s / DVDs that came with the hardware.
FYI most video cards come with software that upgrade your drivers.
When To Upgrade
I recommend that you check every 3 to 6 months.. If you you see any that just release then I suggest you wait a week or two to install the driver.
Prepare For The Worse
Before installing any driver I would highly suggest you backup your data in case anything goes wrong. If something goes wrong you can rollback majority of the time.
