The steps below are things you should do to keep your PC running in tip top shape.

  1. Backup your data. This is just a reminder, since you should be doing this all of the time. You can of course just copy your data to another drive. I would recommend that you make more than one backup copy. Using services like OneDrive will help you backup your data automatically online.
  2. Go through your data files and delete the files you do not need. Make sure you back them up first
  3. Disk Cleanup. When you run Disk Cleanup make sure to select “Clean up system files. This will delete any old Windows update files.

  5. Uninstall any software you no longer use. If you are not sure if you need the software, then use the internet to find out more about it.
  6. Make sure all of the software you use is up to date. This includes Windows security / driver updates, and any other software you use.

  8. Run SFC/scannow to check for error with your operating files. This has to be done in an elevated CMD.
  9. Optimizer your drives by using built in Windows defragmenter.
  10. If your PC is running slow then you might want to perform a reinstall of Windows. This can be done by doing the steps in Microsoft’s article How to refresh, reset, or restore your PC. Over time I believe this should be done, because over time Windows gets messed up. Remember to back up your data first.
