Preparing to get rid your PC is not as simple as just packing it up in a box. You must make sure that all of your data is off of it. These are the steps you should do to prepare it
- Back up you data just in case you did not do it before.
- Restore your files to your new PC if needed.
- Gather all of the software, and serial numbers for the software that you plan to use on your new PC. In today’s world most of your software you can re download and get the serial number from email, or get from the account you have with the software company.
- Make the recovery media for your new PC if needed.
- Make recovery media for your old PC, or put the original disk in the box. This not really a requirement, but in my opinion it is the right thing to do. Making recovery media in Windows 10 is easy just type Recovery Drive in the search box, and follow the prompts. Earlier OS usually come with a program to help you do this.
- Securely wipe your PC. For Windows 7 or earlier use here are many useful programs to do this both free and paid To free programs include Darik’s Boot and Nuke, and Parted Magic., to wipe the PC. For Windows 8x/10 this is very easy just do the following
- For Windows 8X PC watch the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2Zaq6JG90A. Choose Clean the drive fully option.
- For Windows 10 PCs watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDxV2gium5Y for the instructions on how to do it. Remember to select Remove Every Option.
- If you want to be nice you can make sure that you have all of the updates installed including the latest version of Windows 10 PCs Little know to most people as of now you can download the Windows Media Creation tool at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 to upgrade a Windows 7 or Windows 8X PC to Windows 10. If you choose to this then do this step-before doing step 6. This will not work with a blank drive.
How Are You Going To Rid Of Your Computer:
There several way you can get rid of you old computer. These choices depend on how old the computer is and what shape it is in. You can do one of the following:
1. You can give the PC to a friend, family member or even a co worker. The problem with this option is that you might have to give support.
If the computer is not too old ( 1 or 2 years old) you can try to sell it in the PennySaver,, Craigslist or Ebay. You can also try to sell to a used Computer store.
