In my previous article What is Malware? – Scott Sekinger I explained. In this article I am going to try give you some tips on how to get rid of malware, and how to cut down on the chances of getting infected in the first place. This article applies to Windows.
How to get rid of Malware
- Uninstall any programs you do not use. Reboot your PC.
- Remove any browser add ins /plugins you do not use or recognize.
- Clear your browser’s cache.
- Run dick cleanup and delete everything.
- Update your antivirus and run a complete scan. Reboot your PC.
- Use another virus scanner. I recommend you use one or more. I recommend the following.

- ESET Online Scanner | ESET

- Free online antivirus for your devices – Panda Security
- If you still expect that your I highly suggest you reinstall Windows. Check out Reinstall Windows – Microsoft Support for information on how to do a reinstall. FYI this is the best way to make sure your PC is free of malware.
Prevent Malware Infestation
By now you realize that malware can be a pain in you know what. Below are some ways to prevent from getting infected in the first place.
- Try to avoid using your administrator account for your everyday computer use. Use a standard account instead. Running as standard is one of the best ways of protecting yourself from malware. - Make sure all your software is up to date.
- Avoid opening on attachments that you are getting via email that you are not expecting.
- Avoid clicking links in emails.
- Never download software from well know websites. Never download software from illegal websites.
- Watch what you are installing when your software. Some software like to get you install extra software that you do not want like toolbars.
- Watch were you going online. Some sites are not as safe as others.
